are you down with down?

photo:: domino

Recently there's been a discussion regarding tossing the high profiled, down comforter, dressed bed for the more austere, flat blanket look. { as seen in the WSJ } I suppose as with all fashion trends, after awhile what's new is old is new or old again. something like that. The whole trend of down comforters seems to have made its come back in the 80s when more was more. But now, the trend seems to be returning to the sleek, blanket-coverlet look. Don't mess with my comfort when it comes to sleep, I say.

Dont' get me wrong, I've always loved the look of an antique textile draped over a bed but I could never snuggle down under one of those into sweet slumber.

Personally, I'm a puff girl. I use a coverlet but fold the down comforter at the end of the bed when not in use. I like to sleep under heavy weight, not some thin little piece of fabric that feels like a piece of Nan, no matter who chic it looks. Will you be turning in your fluffy bedding for something streamlined?

seeing this every where lately.....

Door knockers/ring pulls on the backs of upholstered chairs.  Is it a fad? A classic ? Do you like it? Have you used it in your designs? I'm not sure one could actually pull the seat out by the ring without loosening  the upholstery over time. So it's really just a chair bauble. right?

Let's chat about this, superfluous, pretty bit of hardware.

Personally, I like it....... in the right space.

Target take me away....

what? what's that I hear? the tinny throm of steel drums? the waves crashing? I can almost smell  the warm aroma of sweet mimosa and salt air..... or is it just the newest line at Target?

Dress like a jet setting beach goer while paying like a linoleum strolling, red plastic grocery cart pushing shopper. Calypso St. Barth's will be the next haute designer to collaborate with Target. And from the looks of things, it's going to be a good one......

tap this if you'd like the aural experience as you read:

Word on the street is that there will be a home line with candles, dishes.....some kiddy wear {hang on, I may have made that up - ok, I can't substantiate, but I swear I read that somewhere } and of course some fantastic frocks.

Sort of like last year's Liberty of London colab. But let's hope they don't manage to screw this one up.

So, come May 1st, put down that 10 pack of granny panties and run to the designer corner of your local Target.  Nothing brings affordable luxury to the burbs like the big T.

& AS '

ampersand AS apostrophe has some killah leathah bags. And I need a new, distressed, boho-cool hand bag like I need another reason to go work out.

ampersand AS apostrophe's bags are made by Seattle designer, Jessica Park, from 100 year old leather mail bags {see? told you they were cool } what's even better,

they morph. From envelope clutch

to shoulder bag.

AAAAND if that were not enough they come in great colors like, Gray, White Suede and even this dandy canvas number.

and what's with the name?

" Once read aloud, the phrase reveals
itself as three common symbols: ampersand meaning addition, as meaning
equal to and apostrophe meaning multiples of. All functions of
transformation, methods to an end. Written, their raw qualities are
abstracted, revealing their honest + would-be undiscovered, visual
beauty.

The conventional, transformed unconventionally."

I had to read that aloud, and actually, I still don't get it.

I sort of get it. I guess.

But whatever. I'm fairly certain that my brain is working at about a double digit IQ this week. I'm just saying behold the beauty and maybe go buy one {one for you one for me, my birthday's coming up}

Yule Blog

Completely going Amish on my computer last week, has been..... cleansing? liberating? hibernating? paralyzing?

I sit here, cotton for brain, beginning a post about my anti-resolution act, hopping over to fb to get in on a wall discussion regarding whether  All - Clad or La Crueset is the better slow cooker.  Coming back, erasing previous entry,  scanning through some websites and photos I pulled, 'last year'. Back to Twitter, answer a few emails....

I'm practically sitting here, eyes at half mast, chin on hand, drooling  with  'Back to Reality' playing softly somewhere in the nether regions of my shrunken brain.

Today, this is just going to be a toe dipped into the larger sea that is blogging. A post to get the gears moving a bit. Nothing too serious, just pretty, pretty pictures.

The always cheerful photography of Magnus Selander

My bike love is forever true > Now if only designer, Kara Ginther,  would create a saddle for the beach cruiser.

And while we're on the subject of bikes, I know, the Carrie Basket is nothing new. But I still love mine and highly recommend it. You can find it at Gum Tree, in Hermosa Beach.

One in every color please. I received one of these for Christmas, and love  it. Look how cool it is. That alone had me sold.

And finally, I love this bathroom. Perfectly perfect for a beach bungalow. found via here.

wainscoting and red bed

and this lovely little beachy guest room. I can feel the salty sea breeze wafting through the window already. found via here.

I'm warming up already.
