I think I love this look #1 for the nostalgia factor. It brings up memories of 5 year old birthday parties and rides home looking down at my red tight covered legs bearing traces of a good time had : dried white icing, punch stains and a torn knee ( good for sticking your thumb and fore finger in to make bigger  ) Who wouldn't want to bring that back into their grown-woman repertoire of looks?

Nostalgia aside, this look hits the 'color blocking' trend square in the pie hole. And while we're talking 'color blocking' since when is mixing patternless colors a trend? I think I did this when I was 5, too. But it was called Garanimals. Oh those silly fashion folk.  Back to the Red Tights. They're graphic, they're modern and bit girlish for sure. I ,officially, declare February "Red Tight Month".

by the way, imagine a red tight with that YSL shoe in the previous post... "riiiiiigghht?" (said in my best LA dialect )

on trend :: neo-navajo

I don't know about you, but, this whole trend of the 80s Navajo vibe being cool 'again', scared me in the beginning. I have memories of Peach framed, R.C.Gorman prints with coyotes howling in the moonlight. (And then there's this review, that put it all into perspective.)

The only subset I've seen make this look work, and not like they never caught up with the times, are those young enough that they were babies if not even alive when this trend made its first go around.  So, for the rest of us,  I've culled a few items that, while allowing incorporation of the trend , won't have you looking like you stopped caring in 1988.

  1. Bernere Blanket Skirt - LemLem ( love  this )

  2. Canyon Lady Felt Hat - Yellow 108  ( found mine at wicked + in Hermosa Beach.)

  3. Madien Poncho - Club Monaco

  4. Chevron Ring - House of Harlow

  5. Buckle Back Ankle  Boot - Free People ( I own these, and can attest to their ability to make you feel your full, bad-ass potential. Order a size larger. They run skosh squinchy )

it's in the bag

you need this bag.

I stumbled into American Apparel the other day with my 13 year old. The store has long lost its cool factor with me for a couple of reason: The High Creep Factor of , teri richardson & dov charney did it for me (it bugs me a bit, to even endorse their product) . And also, too, at my age and juncture in life, the 'roller girl'  look isn't going to be happening any time soon. Nay. I shall not be sporting a hot pink, satin body suit and side pony tail in a scruntchie, no matter how much you want me to. (And you know you sorta want to see that)

However, I did find one of my favorite accessories of the season! and I have to share it- because it's a find at 60.00 something dollars. The oversized clutch that comes in a bunch of awesome colors. I bought one that's very ralph lauren, saddle leather in color. But I'm thinking  I may need one in 'nude' or a pastel for the summer.

I'm told, by those trusty young fashion bloggers, that these are a knock-off of a Ce´line and Comme de Garcon bags seen at fashion week ( i live at the beach, and wear havianas all day. what would I know)

I just know, they add a little updated chic to any outfit from cutoffs in the day to palazzo pants at night. And as an added bonus, I found a DIY project over at Just B. Those Clever little fashion bloggers on small budgets can be so resourceful.

I'm thinking someone needs to 'tag' one of these bags. a la LV. If I do, I'll def. let you know how that goes.

savage beauty

really, just, wow.

So creepy - beautiful. Poetry as fashion.

Especially the raven body cast......

 When I think of Alexander McQueen, I'm reminded that individual self expression comes in so many forms, whether it be fashion, interior design, pen to paper or whatever. None of it frivolous all of it a necessary part of social and human evolution.

Savage Beauty,”
a retrospective of Alexander McQueen’s two decades in fashion, at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art. Something not to miss if you're in NYC.

There's a great video over at the New Yorker covering this retrospective with Judith Thurman narrating. check it out.

Veronica Beard

I'd like to get Summer started before I have to start thinking about Fall. But, the fashion world is already cranking and preparing us for the season to come.  Loving the art direction of Veronica Beard's new Fall '11 campaign. The clothes, the styling, the photography, the LOCATION ( dying over the art in this Long Island home ) all of it. Shot by the always talented, Claiborne Swanson Frank

currently on replay....

...in my head.

I need to just get it over with and buy a pair of the Swedish Hasbeens Braided Sky Highs. They're pretty much all that I can focus, the wee fashion part of my brain, on these days. They come in incredible summery colors from powder blue to lemon yellow. I'm eyeing the Silver.

idle thoughts while surfing...

I wish there was a game show where the contestant was brought into a room,  packed with crap. { think 'Hoarders' without the dried up cat carcasses } and then given 60 seconds to find the most expensive thing in the room.

Because I'd be really, really good at it. I'd win. I'd go on to the next level, a warehouse filled with the unmarked boxes in which to find the Fabrege egg {or washer and dryer, or speedboat } I can type in the word, 'clutches' on a search engine { as in small evening bags - not manual transmission cars } and look at the image page, filled with a hundred variations on the theme. And zoom. My eye goes straight to this one:

And I know, that if there were such a show?  I'd have fierce competition......

No idea where I, originally, found this dress.  It's Marchesa { thank you Katie Armour }

but doesn't it remind you of the Marjorie Skouras Turquoise Chandelier?

fashion :: L'wren Scott

At Fashion week, designer L'wren Scott sent down the runway, a parade of the most wonderful color mixes and silhouettes. All very wearable.

this might be my favorite.

The models 'look' was a bit vintage classic mixed up with a heavy eye makeup and messy hair. Madmen meets last night's hair and makeup.

Lady like, strong and a bit naughty. And the color palettes?

Has me dreaming of rooms with strong color uses and mixes - a little vintage glam with a little lady like tussle.

{ once upon... }

I'm not sure what's cooler, the concept { every monday, wear something different and stand on something }, the art direction or the photography. Heidi Lender's series of photos featuring fashiony, interior designy, travel concepts are the bee's knees.

also, I want those zebra shoes.

you can follow Heidi's tumblr feed for updates of her series { once upon... }
