Whenever we stay at a beautifully executed hotel, I'm  shameless when it comes to flipping over ottoman's, crawling under the desk in the room, shimming out the armoire - all to find that little tag telling me, 'who made it'. Last week while in Nevis, the hotel where we were staying used mass quantities of Janus et Cie furniture. Most of it was what you'd expect with traditional lines and dark wood,  but what stood out to me was a line by designer Kenneth Cobonpue that sat on a little patio over looking the beach. I couldn't find the exact line that the hotel used, but his site had a ton of similar and great looking pieces. Check it:

 I'm back. Yes, it was incredible...with crazy variety. We went from family's house in St. Michael's Maryland (Chesapeake  Bay) to Washington D.C. to Nevis (West Indies) barely made it out before the storm rolled in. I gotta say, it's a lot easier getting back into reality when you live at the beach. I highly recommend it if you can swing it.

I'm going on vacay for a bit. I'll be posting. Maybe. Not sure. The family usually hates me when I do this on vacations. It interrupts the getting-to-re-know you aspect of the sport of hanging out together. I'm sure I will be Instagramming the whole way through so please follow along over there if you're a voyeur (like myself).



I thought I'd leave you with this nugget from one of my favorite people I've never met. I give you, Ira Glass (who is one of the few radio personalities who looks exactly how I'd imagine) ......

Born in 1885, Frank, the Austrian born architect, artist and designer is to this day one of the most important designers. In his structural design work, he like a true architect, rejected facade decor for functional forms. His ability to successfully use asymmetry and curvilinear design in a modern sense, is brilliance.

 



In his wallpaper, carpet and textile design, it's a celebratory chorus of organic lines and color. Never, ever will his work appear dated. A true design genius.

This print, Terazzo, is one of two of his 160, known textile designs that are not based on nature. Designed to be used as carpet in 1944 for Estrid Ericson on her 50^th birthday.
